Exercise 11: Superimposing digital images and video
In another series of video experiments we used the possibilities
digital equipement could give us: saving sequencies of still images, superimposing images
and other effects.
For the video named "Autoportraits"
we used a digital camera that could superimpose still images,
that had been saved in its memory, on video footage while recording.
Students decided to combine real images of their faces with drawings
and paintings of the walls of the classroom.
They recorded still images of their faces but in a successive motion
(frame by frame), so as to make them animate as well.
Then they searched for images to combine with their animated faces.
Soon they were all trying to combine themselves with painted portraits
from the History of Art searching for suitable faces and personalities.
This experiment resulted to a very expressive and freely recorded (camera
on the hand) video, which was completed with a rythmical song of their own choice.
